This Privacy Policy describes how Blackbone SRL ("Blackbone", "we", "us", or "our") handles information in connection with the BlackBone VPNclient app for iOS and macOS ("the App").
Short version: we don't collect, store, transmit, or sell anything about you. The App is a tunneling utility — it sets up a WireGuard connection between your device and a VPN exit node and then gets out of the way.
1. What the App does
BlackBone VPN configures Apple's NetworkExtension framework to route your device's network traffic through a WireGuard tunnel. The App is a client; it does not operate the exit nodes you connect to (those are either operated by Blackbone for our own infrastructure, or by you if you import a self-hosted configuration).
2. Information the App processes
On your device only
- Server configuration: the IP addresses, ports, and WireGuard public/private keys you import or pull from a control plane URL you configure. Stored in the iOS/macOS Keychain via NETunnelProviderManager.
- Connection preferences: kill switch, tracker blocker, selected country, list of trusted Wi-Fi network names. Stored in UserDefaults on the device.
- Current Wi-Fi network name (SSID), macOS only: read via CoreWLAN.CWWiFiClient and used solely to decide whether to auto-connect the tunnel. Never transmitted, never written to disk by the App. The system macOS Location permission is required by Apple to read this value since macOS Sequoia.
Sent off-device
- VPN-encrypted trafficis routed through the exit node you connect to. The exit node sees the same traffic your ISP would otherwise see. Blackbone's own exit nodes are configured to log nothing. If you use your own self-hosted nodes, the logging policy is yours.
- Optional control plane pull:if you configure a control plane URL, the App fetches a JSON server directory from it using a Bearer token you provide. The request includes only the standard HTTP request metadata (your IP address visible to the control plane, no other payload). For Blackbone's official control plane at
vpn.blackbone.ro, no per-user identifiers are logged.
3. Information we DO NOT collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your name, email, phone number, or any other contact information
- Your browsing history, DNS queries, or any websites you visit
- Crash reports or telemetry from inside the App
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA), device identifiers, or persistent user IDs
- Analytics events of any kind — there is no analytics SDK in the App
The App contains no third-party SDKs other than the open-source WireGuardKit library (linked statically, runs only inside the tunnel extension).
4. Apple TestFlight / App Store
If you install the App via the App Store or TestFlight, Apple collects its standard install metadata according to Apple's privacy policy. We have no insight into that data beyond aggregated, anonymized download counts shown in App Store Connect.
5. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly process data about children.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect any changes. Material changes will be announced inside the App.
